National House of Hope
National House of Hope is an organization running faith based behavior modification programs across the United States.
The organization was started by Sara Trollinger in 1985. The first department was founded in Orlando, Florida .
It is now located in several states across the United States.
The length of the residential programs are between 8 and 18 months.
Both outpatient and residential programs are offered. A training program with 9 levels is offered to people who want to francaise a new program.
Locations of residential programs
There might be local differences in the residential programs but in general they use a level system consisting of seven phases:
|On Grace||This level consist of a trial period where the teenagers is expected to learn the rules in the program. The teenager is isolated from everyone in their past life including their parents. Violations of the rules may result in consequences. The level is lasting 2 weeks.|
|Orientering||The rules have to be lived by and violations have consequences. Still no contact with the family or peers are allowed. This level last at least 5 weeks but some have observed 12 weeks.|
|Phase 1||Once the teenagers are broken by the program structure, the parents are invited for counseling and parenting classes. Both activities are scheduled on the same day so the families are allowed to remain together on campus between the activities. Some time this period to 20 minutes. A phone call of 5 minutes is also scheduled one time per week.|
|Phase 2||The visitation is expanded in phase 2. A 90 minutes visit off campus and Sundays off campus between 9 and 17 is allowed.|
|Phase 3||The teenagers can go home for the weekend.|
|Home phase||During the home phase they live at home but return to campus for counseling|
|Graduation phase||No description is given at this point|
In order to advance in the level system the teenagers are expected to complete memorization of bible verses and do book reports.
The parents are mandated to participate in parenting classes.
They use the School of Tomorrow Curriculum also known as the Accelerated Christian Education (A.C.E.) workbook curriculum provided by School of Tomorrow . School of Tomorrow requries that just one person in an entire school be "certified" to use the curriculum. This certification is NOT from any state agency. It is issued by School of Tomorrow. This enables schools to use the curriculum without having any certified teachers by the State.
