Summit Achievement is a behavior modification facility with a postal addres of 69 Deer Hill Road, Stow, Maine 04037.

It was founded in 1995

They are able to detain 32 teenagers at the time in 4 groups. The target group is teenagers aged between 13 and 19.

The program last minimum 60 days.

Program structure

They use a kind og level system all of the detained teenager has to pass through in order to graduate the program.

When a teenager enters the facility where they are going to be detained, they are placed on the first level called Base Camper. Here they have to deal with the impact letter, which basically is a list of errors the parents want to have fixed by them before they can be accepted back into their own family.

The next levels are called Hiker, Climber, Lead Climber, Belayer and finally Expedition Leader.

When they are on the Climber level they should be at a level where they have learned that the only way forward in the program is to discuss how they accept all their mistakes stated in the impact letter and be able to create a reply where they show absolute submissiveness in relationship with the parents and staff.

When they are on the Belayer level they have to write a letter of anyone they have harmed justified or not in order to progress to the next level.

Each week consist of 3,5 days on the campus and 3,5 days with hiking. The offer some kind of education, when the teenagers are on the campus.


Each week the parents can talk to the therapist and when they are finished the phone is handed over to the teenager.

Living conditions

When they are on campus, two teenagers share a room. There are 8 teenagers in each cabin.
