Waco Center for Youth is a behavior modification facility located on 3501 N. 19th Street, Waco, Texas 76708 [1]

Program Structure

The facility uses a level system [2]. It consists of three levels. They are named:

  • Engagement Stage of Treatment (Days 1-90, approximately)
  • Working Stage of Treatment (Days 91-180, approximately)
  • Transition Stage of Treatment (Days 181-discharge, approximately)

Consequences

They use three types of punishments (According to the parent manual - section: Psychiatric Behavioral Emergency Interventions) [2].

  • Restraint hold - Either "bear hug" or restraint on the floor
  • Use of restraint chair
  • Isolation room

The present regulation means that an evaluation of the use of restraints or isolation has to be done within two hours if the restraint or isolation has not been canceled before this time limit runs out [3].

In the news

  • A staff member was convicted for having child pornography in his home. He got 8 years [4]
  • Several staff members were intervived in relationship with the Matt Baker murder trial due to him having an office on the campus [5]
